The town of Old Woodstock in Oxfordshire has a unique tradition dating back to the eighteenth century, where a new Mayor is selected each year in a festival that includes speeches by candidates, elaborate costumes, and a parade across Blenheim Park to New Woodstock’s Town Hall. The event originated as a playful jab at a neighboring town and has been revived in recent decades. After the festivities at the Town Hall conclude, the procession returns to Old Woodstock where the outgoing Mock Mayor is playfully dunked in the River Glyme, and everyone enjoys a delightful time.
